The best Hungarian wines of 2014

VinCE Magazine judges freshly released wines month after month and also carries out themed tastings in which we seek the best among certain grape varieties or wine styles. Now, we’re going to reveal the wines that reached the highest positions over 2014’s 11 issues – the 50 wines are those that were given the highest scores among the almost 1,200 bottles sent to us. If you choose any of these, you certainly won’t regret it.

How does VinCE magazine judge wine?

1. The wines are always tasted blind, which means that the tasters cannot see any part of the bottle: neither the label nor the capsule. Also, the wine is served covered in a stiff bag, which cannot be seen through and does not even reveal the shape of the bottle.

2. We always adjust the tasting panel according to the theme of the tasting, meaning that we always invite experts on the given topic. The composition of the panel is mixed, in order that all areas of the wine business are represented: sommeliers, wine merchants, wine writers, winemakers and wine experts holding international qualifications.

3. The test is open and free: any winery or distributor can send samples to our tastings. For further information, please write to us at: teszt@vincemagazin.hu

4. The only permanent member of the panel is László Romsics, an international wine expert and a permanent advisor to VinCE magazine. He takes an active role in selecting the test themes, tastes at every tasting, and proofreads the entire content of the magazine. Prior to the tastings, he doesn’t know what the wines are and tastes them blind, just as the other members of the panel do.

5. Famous guests and staff members of VinCE also taste on occasion, although their points are NOT included in the evaluation of the wines.

6. The results of the tastings are kept confidential until publication, with the only exception being the winemakers who made the wines that achieved the three best positions. For them, we offer the opportunity to emphasize the result with an advertisement.

7. We’ve been tasting diligently for 10 years, and our credibility is indicated by the continuous increase in the number of subscribers and buyers.
